Music Education: Choral and General

The School of Music at Western Michigan University offers a Bachelor of Music in music education with choral and general music emphasis.

This degree program prepares future choir directors and general music teachers for a successful career in teaching. Music education at WMU emphasizes the practicum as a primary component of learning. Students in the program observe and interact with K-12 students and teachers in schools around the Kalamazoo area throughout their sophomore, junior and senior years. Their education culminates in a full semester apprenticeship with a mentoring teacher.

Graduates of the choral and general music education program are found leading K-12 music programs all over the United States, and some continue their studies and teach at the collegiate level.
