His graduate degrees are in music education and music therapy.
He is a specialist in secondary general music education and special learners.
He came to Western from the University of Georgia, having taught previously at Florida State University and at public schools in Florida and Michigan.
He has served as the senior researcher on a program for the U.S. Administration on Aging Title IV.
In 1990, he was named the recipient of the Southeastern Chapter of National Association for Music Therapy (SEC-NAMT) Research Award for significant contributions to research with the elderly.
He has published articles in the Journal of Music Therapy, Journal of the International Association of Music for the Handicapped, General Music Today, and Music Therapy Perspectives. Convention papers have been presented in Florida, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee.
He is past-president of the American Music Therapy Association.
