Each high school band director in Michigan may nominate as many as four of his or her best players for participation in the 120-member Frank Ticheli All-Star Band which will rehearse and perform in Miller Auditorium on spring conference day. Band directors must mail their all-star nomination form and registration form no later than Friday, March 11.
Recorded audition recommended
We encourage each nominee to send a recorded audition (CD preferred). First chair aspirants must include a recorded audition. A recorded audition will be especially helpful to an outstanding student who has not participated regularly in solo/ensemble festivals (one of the main criterion for selection). An individual CD for each candidate is required if a recorded audition is sent.
Recordings should include a "contest" solo. Recordings will be returned on April 14 (or by mail if the student is not present). All nominated students will be notified, at their home addresses, of their participation status no later than March 25. Frank Ticheli All-Star Band winners will receive music to prepare. Participants will be asked to pay a $10 fee when they arrive on April 14. Nominated students not placed in the all-star band may still attend the conference free of charge.
