Cricket Poem
______________________________________

She said I could borrow crickets
For my bedroom

We had met in line at the post office
We were wearing similar shirts

She said she would cook
Abalone that I would dive for
And that her bedroom faced
The ocean

We walked towards her cottage

Mine
Grins into the woods I said
And I’ve dusted the bust of my grandfather
The moon is polite there

She nodded
Then said
That her crickets were
The best in the country

We were now in her kitchen

I said I hope
That they are not spoiled

To which she kissed me quickly
And said you certainly are
A darling
And I will always love you

And she undressed
And I gazed partly over the ocean
