George Coy, a former Western Michigan University staff member, died Thursday, Aug. 9. He was 84.
Coy, of Portage, Mich., joined WMU in January 1972 and retired after nearly 21 years of service to the University in December 1992. He worked for Facilities Management as a tradesman.
Prior to coming to WMU, he served in the Army Counter Intelligence Corps from 1946 to 1949. After his retirement, he continued to run his own business, G&G Heating and Air Conditioning.
Cremation has taken place, and his ashes will be interned at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Mich., and the family cemetery, Prospect Hill, in Paw Paw, Mich. Memorials may be made to the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Battle Creek.
A memorial service with full military honors will be held at Fort Custer Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m.
