Accelerated bridge construction topic of workshop
KALAMAZOO—National and international experts in bridge design and the construction will speak to Michigan contractors, fabricators and consultants about accelerated bridge construction during a workshop co-sponsored by Western Michigan University this month.
The upcoming Accelerated Bridge Construction/Structural Slide and Move workshop Monday, Dec. 9, in Lansing, Mich., features speakers from the design and construction industry and Federal Highway Administration. They will discuss temporary substructure design and construction, jacking systems for lateral slides, and moving bridge elements or complete bridge superstructures into place. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Williams Auditorium of the G. Mennen Williams Building, 525 W. Ottawa St.
Speakers include Dr. Haluk Aktan, WMU professor of civil and construction engineering, who will address the topic, "Processes and Tools for Alternative Analysis of ABC for Project Delivery." Other speakers are professionals from the Michigan Department of Transportation, engineering consultants from the United States and Canada, the Federal Highway Administration, and Utah Department of Transportation.
Aktan will also moderate a panel at the end of the workshop.
This is WMU's second workshop on accelerated bridge construction, with the first being held last March.
