Public Safety officers investigate Asylum Lake armed robbery

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Western Michigan University Department of Public Safety officers are investigating an armed robbery that took place at approximately 4:50 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Asylum Lake Preserve, located near the intersection of Drake Road and Parkview Avenue about three miles southwest of the University's main campus in Kalamazoo and near WMU's Parkview Campus.

The suspect in the robbery is described as a white male in his 30s with dark hair and dark beard, wearing black cargo shorts and a puffy camo jacket. WMU Dept. of Public Safety and Kalamazoo Dept. of Public Safety officials have investigated and have left the scene.

Members of the campus and broader Kalamazoo community are asked to avoid the Asylum Lake area until further notice.
