KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Meeting in formal session at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees will elect its officers for the 2017 calendar year.

Gathering in the Heritage Hall Ballroom for what is considered the board's annual meeting, trustees also will consider a residency policy update as well as discuss tuition policy for future nonresident undergraduates. Consideration of two property acquisitions also is on the agenda.

Additional items on the agenda include reports covering personnel moves, receipt of gifts and grants, and curriculum proposals. Information items presented to the board will include a report on the University's Broncos First student success initiative and a presentation on the career outcome data recently compiled for 2015-16 graduates of WMU.

The board will welcome two new trustees to its ranks at the meeting. Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder announced in December the names of two new trustees who will replace outgoing board members Mary Asmonga-Knapp and James Hettinger.

Ron Kitchens of Portage and Shari Penn of Detroit are the new trustees. They will be sworn in at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, during a ceremony slated for the President's Dining Room of the Bernhard Center.
