College Assistance for Parenting and Education (CAPE)

The federally funded College Assistance for Parenting and Education project (CAPE) allows Western Michigan University to provide financial assistance to student parents to help them graduate from college. The CAPE grant offers Pell – eligible undergraduate and graduate student parents at WMU reduced child care tuition. Family Engagement

The WMU Family Engagement office partners with parents, guardians, student mentors and family members to promote and encourage student learning, responsible independence and personal development. The program provides comprehensive information, advice and reassurance to better understand the University experience and effectively support student success. 

The Invisible Need Project

The Invisible Need Project is a multi-faceted initiative intended to serve students with unmet needs, while strengthening the culture of giving at Western Michigan University. The Project engages the entire campus community, encouraging all faculty, staff, administrators, and fellow students to come together to help students in need. 

Student media

The Western Herald is the student newspaper which highlights campus news, entertainment and opinions about Western Michigan University. The Western Herald is available at any of the distribution boxes located on campus.

WIDR 89.1 FM logoWIDR-FM, 89.1 is a student-operated noncommercial radio station that serves the WMU campus and community. WIDR features contemporary music, news, sports, community and campus information, and also provides a place for students to learn about the broadcasting industry.

WMUK-FM, 102.1 is a National Public Radio affiliate owned and operated by Western Michigan University. WMUK provides a unique blend of news, music, and cultural programming to the Southwest Michigan area.
