Professional Nursing Program Admission and Progression
The professional nursing program (B.S.N.) consists of a total 125 credit hours: 58 credits in liberal arts and science courses and 67 credits in nursing. Admission to the professional nursing program is highly competitive. Each fall and spring semester, 45 students are selected for admission. To be considered for admission to the professional nursing program students must:
- Complete all of the courses in the pre-nursing program curriculum with a minimum cumulative GPA of B (3.0), and individual course grades with a minimum grade of C (2.0) or above
- Earn grades of B (3.0) or above in each of the prerequisite sciences courses (CHEM 1510 and 1520, CHEM 1530 and 1540, and BIOS 1910 and 2400); only one science prerequisite course may be repeated, and it may only be repeated one time. However, both grades will be considered in the application
- Complete and submit the
professional nursing program application to the WMU Bronson School of Nursing. Applications for the fall semester are due by March 15; applications for the spring semester are due by October 15.
The sequencing of the professional nursing program curriculum is critical. Students must complete designated course requirements for each level in the nursing program before progressing to the next level. Please review the sample professional nursing program of study and
undergraduate student handbook for more information regarding the curriculum and course sequencing.
To remain in good standing within the professional nursing curriculum, students must achieve a grade of C or better in all nursing courses and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above. No nursing courses may be repeated without review and approval by the Student Affairs Committee.
