In order to make the most of the opportunities offered by Western Michigan University's Department of Occupational Therapy, a meeting with an academic advisor is highly recommended.
To schedule an appointment with an advisor, please call the College of Health and Human Services Advising Office at (269) 387-2656.
There are three specific advising services which all students will have contact with in the Occupational Therapy Program:
The role of the Academic Program Advisor, through the College of Health and Human Services Advising Office, provides guidance to pre-admissions students for assistance in application preparation as well as advising for all students admitted to the occupational therapy program including academic program plan of study, course registration issues, and application for graduation.
The role of the OT Faculty Student Advisor is to promote and support professional development by meeting with students as a group during Orientation, then once each semester as small groups &/or individually depending on student need.
The role of the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator is to facilitate students’ progress through each of their fieldwork experiences and will work in partnership with the Faculty Student Advisor to prepare students for fieldwork.
