Relationship to curriculum design
As students engage in acquisition of skills in evaluation and intervention, which are the foci of competencies at this stage of the program, the entire range of competencies addressed in the curriculum design are embedded in this experiential phase. The full-time fieldwork experience provides significant opportunities to continue to discover new knowledge of occupational therapy as well as apply knowledge and practice skills with a variety of client populations within multiple contexts. In a collaborative relationship with a clinical supervisor and mentor, students reflect on the acquisition of new knowledge and practice skills with the goal being to integrate this new knowledge and experience with previous didactic and clinical experiences in order to competently practice as entry level occupational therapists.
- The student will develop entry level competencies for the Level II fieldwork by the end of the experience as identified and detailed in the American Occupational Therapy Association Level II Fieldwork Evaluation.
- Student will assume a full client caseload, as defined by fieldwork site, by the end of the experience.
Students will be evaluated at midterm and final using the American Occupational Therapy Association form Fieldwork Performance Evaluation for the Occupational Therapy Student.
