This course will provide students with an opportunity to develop self-directed learning skills through a series of client cases by researching information needed to evaluate and plan treatment for people receiving occupational therapy services. Students will participate in small groups to share learning issues and practice talking to patients, clients, family members and other professionals.
Relationship to curriculum design
This course provides an opportunity for students to discover new information through a self-directed learning process, integrate that new information with information that they learned in their previous semester and apply all of the relevant information to case studies. Students will be evaluated in the Communication Competency as follows: The competent occupational therapy graduate demonstrates effective verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills in a wide range of practice related activities including client care, client education, consultation, marketing, and collaboration with interdisciplinary team members and supervisor AND the< Intervention Plan Competency as follows: The competent occupational therapy graduate uses evaluation findings which are culturally relevant and reflective of current occupational therapy practice, based on available evidence and appropriate frames of reference to develop occupation-based intervention
