Photo CD
Developed by Kodak, it is becoming a new standard for storing digital images. Initially intended for consumers but also adopted by publishers.
- Supported by Photoshop, PageMaker, InDesign, QuarkXPress, Illustrator, FreeHand, etc. The image below was placed into PageMaker from a file on the PageMaker CD.
- Stored in YCC format discussed earlier.
- Kodak’s Photo CD film scanner can scan positives or negatives, convert to YCC, compress and store as PCD. Supports densities up to 2.8.
- A Photo CD image is stored as an image pac which contains information necessary for 5 resolutions. These vary from 192 x 128 for display to 3074 x 2048 for printing. See Table 5-1.
- Pro Photo CD supports 6144 x 4096 (72 MB) is intended for professionals as opposed to consumers.
