Internal Color Models
All scanners capture data as RGB values. Many Drum scanners convert directly to CMYK while most desktop scanners just record the RGB values
- Our Linocolor scaner inputs directly into CIELab when the standalone Linorcolor software is used, but scans into RGB when the saphire plug-in for Photoshop is used.
- Normally the conversion to device dependent CMYK or device independent CIE values must be done be done in image editing software such as Photoshop.
- If the conversion to CMYK has been calibrated to the output device, than doing the conversion “on the fly” is an advantage. However, with faster desktop processors, the conversion in Photoshop is generally fast and can be modified for different output devices without destroying the original.
- The scan into a device independent CIE model is the most valuable. This amounts to a colorimeter built into the scanner electronics.
Adjustments in Scanning - These may be done directly by the scanning software or in image editing software after the scan.
