Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan. This course will occupy three campus locations. We start Monday morning at Fetzer Center which is located on the main campus. Labs and pilot coater run will take place at Welborn Hall on Monday afternoon and in the new College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the Parkview Campus both Monday and Wednesday afternoon. The course is held 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (EST).

Driving Directions

From the Kalamazoo Airport:

• From the Kalamazoo airport turn right onto Portage Road.


• Take highway I-94 West (to Chicago).


• Exit 74B US-131 North (to Grand Rapids).


• Take US-131 North to Stadium Drive East exit 36A.


• Turn right onto East bound Stadium Drive
  
  

Day One:

8 a.m. — Fetzer Center 2350 Business Court Kalamazoo, MI 49008 { Google Map } { Website }

After turning right onto East bound Stadium Drive:

• Go about 2.2 miles, which will take you through three traffic lights. At the fourth traffic light turn left onto Howard Street.


• Go 0.6 miles to the next traffic light. Turn right onto West Michigan Avenue. You will enter a roundabout. Follow the roundabout to the second exit, which is Rankin.


• After turning on to Rankin, continue to the next stop sign.


• Turn right onto Business Court.


• Take the first left into the large parking area and make the first right into the Fetzer Center parking area, Lot #72F. After you make this last turn, you will see the Fetzer Center straight ahead.

2 p.m. — Welborn Hall 2508 West Michigan Ave Kalamazoo, MI 49008 { Google Map }

From the Fetzer Center:

• Exit the Fetzer parking lot and turn right onto Business Court.


• At the stop sign, turn left onto Rankin.


• Take the first right into the Welborn Hall large parking lot. After your turn, you will see Welborn Hall located on your left — a gray, metal-sided building.

3 p.m. — College of Engineering 4651 Campus Drive Kalamazoo, MI 49008 { Google Map }

From Welborn Hall:

• Exit the Welborn parking lot and turn right onto Rankin.


• Enter the roundabout, staying right, and exit on the first right which is W. Michigan Avenue.


• At the light, turn left onto Howard Street.


• At the next light, turn right onto Stadium Drive west.


• Drive about 2.2 miles, or to the third traffic light after Howard, turn left onto Drake Road. Drake Road dead-ends into the Business, Technology and Research Park and WMU's Parkview Campus.


• Enter park, turn right at the fourth driveway or just before the next brick WMU sign, turning onto Engineering Drive.


• Drive past the gray metal sided building. Continue driving until you reach the two level parking ramp and turn left into the second drive.


• Dr. Margaret Joyce will provide you with directions where to meet in the engineering college.

Day Two:

1:45 p.m. — Pilot Coater, College of Engineering 4651 Campus Drive Kalamazoo, MI 49008 { Google Map }

From the Fetzer Center:

• Exit the Fetzer parking lot and turn right onto Business Court.


• Turn left onto Rankin.


• Enter the roundabout, staying right, and exit on the first right which is the intersection of Howard Street and W. Michigan Avenue.


• Turn left onto Howard Street and continue until the next stop light.


• Turn right onto Stadium Drive, heading west.


• Follow Stadium for 1.8 miles to the stoplight at Drake Road. Turn left onto Drake.


• Follow Drake Road for 0.7 miles to the Parkview Campus. Enter Parkview Campus and turn right at the fourth driveway.


• Take first left. Just before the gray metal sided building. Sign points to Paper Coating Pilot Plant visitor parking. If you end up at the parking ramp, you’ve gone too far.


• Drive to end and park. You are in front of the Western Paper Coating Pilot Plant. Enter through the door located at the triangular shaped office area at the end of this drive. If you find yourself on the backside of the plant, park anywhere and push the green button located to the left of either dock door. Someone will be there soon to let you in.

Day Four:

After turning right onto East bound Stadium Drive:

• Go about 2.2 miles, which will take you through three traffic lights. At the fourth traffic light turn left onto Howard Street.


• Go 0.6 miles to the next traffic light. Turn right onto West Michigan Avenue. You will enter a roundabout. Follow the roundabout to the second exit, which is Rankin.


• After turning on to Rankin, continue through two stop signs.


• Turn right at the next opportunity into the Welborn parking lot.
