Faculty Supervisor for Study Abroad Programs in Cuba and Tibet


Thomas Kostrzewa received his Ph.D. from Notre Dame University and has been with the Department of Political Science for over 10 years. He has taught a wide range of comparative courses for the department including Russian, Chinese, African, Latin American, and U.S. political systems. Such broad coverage reflects his years of travel and work particular in developing states. More recently, Dr. Kostrzewa has been associated with the Honors College at WMU teaching courses on comparative genocide. Traditional research interests have focused on Chinese minority policy and nationalism and have recently expanded to the field of genocide studies. He also continues to work with the Office of Study Abroad where he is offering study tours to Cuba and Tibet. Dr. Kostrzewa is a life long carpenter and is also active in local politics in the city of Kalamazoo where he chairs the Housing Board of Appeals.
