There are many Study Abroad opportunities for students in this major. If you are considering an international career (and you must, given that you signed on), then you should do all you can to incorporate a study abroad program into your course of study. More information on study abroad for Political Science students can be found here; you can also visit the WMU Office of Study Abroad.

Career Services has assigned a career advisor to the College of Arts and Sciences. Her name is Ewa Urban, and she is active in seeking information and resources for the International and Comparative Major. Her telephone number is 387-2745, and you may also reach her via email at .

General Information on International Affairs

International Volunteer and Internship Information

  • Idealist - An enterprise of Action without Borders. The page lists hundreds of internships and jobs, many of them in non-profit organizations overseas. The search engine is awkward to use; you'll have to try lots of combinations of countries, specializations, etc. Plan on spending a while, but it may prove useful just because of the sheer quantity of listings.
  • Volunteers for Peace - International volunteer work.
  • Vision in Action - International volunteer work.
  • InterAction - Volunteer opportunities.

Jobs Listings in International Affairs

  • Action Without Borders keeps tracks of job and volunteer opportunities in NGOs (non profit non governmental organizations) around the world. It even has a search engine.
  • Overseas Jobs Web has a searchable database of international jobs listings, an electronic newspaper on working overseas, and a jobs resources page.
  • Monster.com's global gateway page. Some regions of the world have considerably more postings than others. A lot of the jobs are technical in nature, but it might pay to browse anyway.

The Peace Corps

www.peacecorps.gov
  • Returned Peace Corps Volunteers are a tightly knit group; visit their home page to find out what volunteers do after they return.
  • There are a number of combined Masters Degree/Peace Corps programs. WMU has one of the newest: a Masters of Development Administration degree combined with the Peace Corps. Check the Peace Corps WEb site for other Masters International Programs.
