Biosketch

Timothy J. Greene, Ph.D.

            Dr. Timothy J. Greene became Provost at Western Michigan University on August 1, 2008. after being Dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Professor of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering since April 1, 2005. 

Prior to joining Western Michigan University, Dr. Greene was Dean of the College of Engineering at The University of Alabama and then their Assistant Vice President for Research and Academic Affairs. Dr. Greene was the Associate Dean for Research in the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology at Oklahoma State University from 1995 to 1999.  Between 1991 and 1995 he was Professor and Head of the School of Industrial Engineering and Management at OSU.  He was on the Virginia Tech Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering faculty from 1980 to 1991 serving as Assistant Department Head for the last five years.  Dr. Greene received a BS degree in Astronautical and Aeronautical Engineering from Purdue University in 1975.  He also has a MS (1977) and Ph.D. (1980) from Purdue University in Industrial Engineering.
           
Dr. Greene was elected President-elect of Institute of Industrial Engineers in 1996.  He served as President of the international professional organization from April 1997 through March 1998 when he began a year as Immediate Past President. He served on the IIE Board of Trustees for eight years.  IIE recognized him in 1986 with their Outstanding Young Industrial Engineer Award.  In 1999 he was elected Fellow of the Institute.
           
Tim has managed research totaling over $10,000,000.  He has graduated over 30 MS and nine Ph.D. students.  As an author he has written or co-written over 50 articles or book chapters and has given technical presentations in eight different countries.  His expertise is primarily in scheduling, operations management, leadership and change management.
