Registrar’s Notes – July 14, 2014
Spring 2015 Schedule Building
The final review of the Spring 2015 schedule begins today. Changes should be made on the working report (in red). Working reports need to be signed by the department chair and returned to the Registrar’s Office by the end of the day Friday. Please note, they must be returned even if there are no changes. The Spring 2015 schedule will be available for students to view on September 29.
As departments complete the final review, it is a great opportunity to add reserved seating to Spring 2015 sections. Reserved seating allows departments to allocate seats to a specific population of students. The maximum capacity for a section can be divided and seats can be saved for students meeting certain criteria. A set number of seats can also be left unreserved and available to the general student population. Students still need to satisfy all registration restrictions in order to register, but reserved seating will allow departments to control how seats are distributed among eligible students. Reserved seating can be added to a section by submitting a Reserved Seating Worksheetto the Registrar’s Office.
Reclaim the W
The Reclaim the W program is a pilot initiative to restore first year students (FTIACs) that were dismissed at the end of their second semester. In May, 104 students were invited to participate in the program based on their WMU grade point average and input from the advising directors. A total of 50 students accepted the offer and have been readmitted for the Fall 2014 semester. As part of the program, these students must attend a mandatory welcome session and complete a Reclaim the W section of UNIV 1030. College advising offices have been provided with the names of the students in the program and will be working with them to finalize their Fall 2014 schedule.
Degree Works Upgrade
Just a reminder that the Degree Works system will be upgraded this evening. The system will be unavailable during the upgrade, which is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. We anticipate having Degree Works back up after 9:00 p.m. tonight. As part of the upgrade, the plans feature has been enhanced. The plans tool within Degree Works allows students and advisors to create a personalized semester-by-semester academic plan, or develop template-based plans that can be assigned to individual students or to groups of students. Not only will plans provide students
with a tool to assist them in completing their education in the shortest possible time, the plans feature will provide important data to assist in capacity planning efforts.
Parking and AR holds
The Accounts Receivable (AR) hold amount was raised last week from $300 to $1000 and all parking holds were ended. This was done in an effort to assist students in registering for the Fall 2014 semester. The holds will go back on September 16.
