Dr. Covell is chair of the Department of Comparative Religion and he was founding director of the Soga Japan Center at Western Michigan University. He is also the director of the study abroad Japanese Religion and Culture Seminar. He has over ten years experience of living and conducting research in Japan including stints as a research associate at Taisho University, the Institute for Asian Cultural Studies at International Christian University and the University of Tokyo.
