David discovered a talent for engineering while in high school—he enjoyed and excelled in his engineering classes and thought, “Maybe this is something I should think about doing as a career.”
He narrowed his college choices to those with good engineering programs. A conversation with WMU’s President Dunn helped David realize Western was the program for him. The accessibility and genuine nature of President Dunn were refreshing to David, and that’s when he knew he wanted to be a Bronco.
Another factor was a five-week summer program, LSAMP (Louis Stokes Association for Minority Participants), that gave David and others a taste of what college would be like.
At Western, David is going into computer engineering, combining his engineering talents with a life-long affinity for computers. Maybe that’s why he looked at the engineering department with an engineering mind. He didn’t think about what a nice place for classes the engineering department was. He thought, “This is actually a possibility,” referring to designing the buildings. “This is something I can do.”
