What can Western do for someone who is already an accomplished cellist? Plenty, according to Kevin. He’s been playing cello for nine years and was chosen as a concerto winner in high school, and yet he knows he can be better. Within his first few weeks as a WMU music student, and with the help of his cello professor, Bruce Uchimura, Kevin has already noticed great improvement in his own skills.
“I’m able to become a better musician every day I’m here,” says Kevin, noting the personal relationship with professors at Western is not only possible, but common.
A musician his whole life, Kevin plans to seek a master’s degree after graduation, then find himself a chair on stage with one of the country’s major symphonies.
Kevin’s goal for changing the world sounds simple, but will take some initiative: let people know music is out there. Through playing music and spreading the word on major symphonies, Kevin plans to inspire others to learn instruments and give music the appreciation it deserves.
