Dr. Mariola Pérez de la Cruz is a master faculty specialist of Spanish in the Department of Spanish at Western Michigan University.
Pérez de la Cruz specializes in Spanish philology and twentieth-century Spanish literature. Her research focuses on post-war Spanish novel and theater, which she studies from a sociohistorical perspective. She authored a book: "Carlos Muñiz: Lola espejo oscuro." This book is an edition of an unpublished play censored under the Franco dictatorship.
Pérez de la Cruz serves the department as coordinator of the compositional Spanish language program and as community outreach coordinator. She organizes the semi-annual Hispanic Film Festival at WMU and is also on the program team of the annual Kalamazoo World Languages Film Festival held every March on WMU's Main Campus. This six-day competitive event is dedicated to the presentation of original creative cinema from Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish-speaking cultures around the world, with the movie subtitles in English. The films compete for the Gold Kazoo prize.
Pérez de la Cruz was the recipient of the 2014-15 College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Achievement Award in Teaching.
