WMU students are living comfortably in the new Western View Phase II apartment-style housing complex, which opened as scheduled in August 2013 in the West residential neighborhood.
The second phase expansion added 174 beds to the existing 330 bed complex and includes living spaces for resident managers. Responding to an increasing need for independent student housing options on campus, the fast-track construction project began in fall 2012.
The new Western View Community Center also opened its doors at the beginning of the fall 2013 semester. Open to Western View residents, the stunning contemporary spaces are purposefully designed for community engagement and student interactions. Interior amenities include meeting and study rooms, a kitchen area with cooking facilities, and a separate fitness room with exercise equipment. Upstairs, a comfortable loft space is finished with additional meeting tables and lounge furniture.
The outdoor areas feature student gathering spaces equipped with patio furniture, tables and chairs, reclining lounge chairs and a gas fireplace. Recreational equipment includes a sport court with basketball hoops and volleyball net.
