Broncos Abroad program search and application

Studying abroad is an experience that can greatly enhance your education by raising your geographical and cultural awareness—two key areas of interest for today's employers seeking new hires. Whether you are majoring or minoring in business, biology, fashion, a world language, or any other academic discipline, Western Michigan University has a study abroad program suitable for you.

Nearly 600 WMU students participate annually in study abroad programs in more than 40 countries. WMU programs are available for undergraduates and graduate students in a broad spectrum of disciplines for an academic year, one semester, or in short-term programs.

Language-intensive study abroad programs are offered in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Russian and Spanish.

Program options include:

  1. Faculty-led programs

  2. WMU exchange programs

  3. Partner study abroad programs

  4. University-approved program provider

  5. International internships

Study Abroad staff members also assist students who choose to participate in other University-approved programs, an international internship, or an independent study abroad.  Students must have these activities approved by Study Abroad prior to departure and meet specific requirements to receive credit toward their degree program.
