WMU Receives Recognition from SEI as one of 80 "Campus Sustainability Leaders Nationally"
(2010 Report Card, The College Sustainability Report Card)
The College Sustainability Report Card is currently the only independent evaluation of campus and endowment sustainability activities at colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. In contrast to the academic focus on sustainability in research and teaching, the Report Card examines colleges and universities, as institutions, through the lens of sustainability and includes six campus sustainability categories, which range from Administration to Transportation to Food and three endowment categories. WMU received four A's and two B's in the campus sustainability categories. Our overall grade, which included the three endowment categories, was a B.
WMU Expands Rechargeable Battery Recycling
(Nov., 2009)
WMU has expanded the rechargeable recycling program to include batteries generated off-campus. Previously we could only accept campus generated batteries due to cost. With the implementation of a free recycling program, batteries from homes are now accepted in the program. Batteries must be rechargeable, such as laptop, cell phone or tool batteries. No alkaline batteries are accepted from off-campus sites. To recycle, take the batteries to either the Roe-Comm store in the Bronco Mall or to 210 Physical Plant. The batteries must be placed in a clear plastic bag (provided) or have the terminals taped. Place the battery in the bag and then into the collection box. There is no fee for this service.
