Advice for Transfers

As a transfer student, the best advice I can give is to live in a residence hall with transfer students. I met a lot of awesome people and was able to talk to people who were experiencing the same things I was.

About Angela D

My Name is Angela and I am going into my 5th year of college. I attended Byron Center High School and graduated in 2006.

I went to Grand Rapids Community College for two years. After I completed those two years I had no idea where I wanted to apply or what I wanted to major in. All in knew was that i wanted to work with kids. My mom suggested that we tour Western Michigan because they have a great teaching program. I came and toured the campus and fell in love with it. Western isn't to small or to large. It was the perfect size for me. I started my first year year perusing a teaching degree and a degree as a Speech Pathologist. As I took these classes I realized that it just wasn't for me so as I completed my 4th year of college I changed my Major to Social Work and my Minor to Psychology. I realized as i finished my first class that i had found my passion and now I cant wait to complete my undergraduate degree and head off to get my masters degree.Eventually i will head out into the social work world and have the best experiences of my life.

When I first came to Western as a Transfer Student I decided to live in the transfer residence halls with other students that transferred to Western. Staying the residence hall was the best decision I had made. I made a lot of good friends that I proceeded to live with in an apartment after we all had our first year at Western. We did a lot of fun things like ice cream socials, scary movie nights, homework groups, and final exam cupcake baking nights. Now I live off campus and it has been just as fun. I work 2 jobs so i don't have a lot of free time to do a lot of other things. I love my jobs and I enjoy staying busy. On days that i do have a little down time I love to walk downtown Kalamazoo and visit all the wonderful restaurants and go to festivals.
