The WMU Student Ambassador Program employs over 100 current WMU students who work to give prospective students and their families a taste of college life at WMU. A student ambassador provides facts, knowledge, and advice that prospective students need while making one of the most important decisions of their lives.
The Student Ambassador Office is seeking applicants for both Telecounselors and Gold Guides for fall 2013. Traits of a successful Student Ambassador include:
Telecounselors are active in recruiting students by contacting prospective students and their families by phone to answer any questions they may have about WMU. In addition to telecounseling, responsibilities include: giving campus tours, serving on student panels, attending two training sessions per week, and participating in campus-wide recruitment events. Telecounseling requires you to commit to a set schedule of 8 hours per week, as well as two tours per week.
Applicants must have two nights available, typically either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday, from 5 to 9 p.m. Applicants must also be available at least one day Monday-Thursday from either 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 2 to 5 p.m. to give tours.
Gold Guides give tours to special groups of students and attend one training session per week. These special students may include elementary, middle, and high school students, scholarship recipients, and students from urban or rural schools. Gold Guides may also be scheduled to give regular campus tours and to attend campus-wide events. This position offers a more flexible schedule; it is possible for a Gold Guide to give approximately 2 to 5 tours per week depending on availability.
Applicants must have two days available Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for tours. Applicants must also have one night available (typically Wednesday or Thursday) from 5 to 6 p.m. for trainings. Fridays will not be counted when considering availability.
If you are interested in being considered for a Student Ambassador position, please complete the interest form and email your schedule to firstname.lastname@example.org. All materials must be submitted by Monday, July 8, 2013 to be considered for this fall.
