TLES faculty present papers around the nation

Dr. Jim Muchmore, associate chair and professor of socio-cultural studies, and teachers from Kalamazoo Central presented a paper titled: The audacity of narrative: Project-based learning is not just for STEM or STEAM at the National Council for Teachers of English conference in Minneapolis.

Dr. Jill Hermann-Wilmarth, professor of socio-cultural studies, and her colleagues also present a paper at NCTE titled: Reading Jacqueline Woodson in elementary and middle grade Classrooms: Exploring LGBTQ topics through her novels and picture books.

Dr. Regena Nelson, Chair of the Department of Teaching, Learning and Educational Studies, presented a paper at the National Association for the Education of Young Children in Orlando based on a collaborative service-learning project with the Douglass Community Association funded by a Kellogg Foundation Grant. The paper is titled: Cultural Competence in Early Childhood Teacher Education.

Dr. Andrea Smith, professor of early childhood education, presented a paper titled Information and Service Priorities of Kinship Care Professionals at the Gerontological Society of American Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL. She also co-chaired a Symposium titles Bridging the Gap: Grandparent Caregivers and Service Providers' Programmatic and Educational Needs.
