Fall 2014 schedule
What can I expect at the SI sessions?
The review sessions are NOT another lecture. The SI leaders are not Teaching Assistants or Graduate Assistants. They are not employed by the professor. They do, however, come to the sessions with material to help you review the course material. You can expect the sessions to be like guided study groups. Since it is led by a person who has already been through the class and knows what to expect, you will be guided through the most important portions of the class. You can expect a lot of personal interaction, so coming prepared will guarantee the best use of your time.
Why do students attend SI sessions?
Because it works! It is absolutely free! Advantages include:
- You will get a better grade - Both national and on-campus studies have shown that students who attend SI on a regular basis average between a half and a full letter grade higher than the rest of the class.
- You will meet people in your major - Since SI sessions are more interactive than most classes, you will get to know people in your major. If you are a first year student this can be especially valuable to you, as your fellow classmates make great resources for help and forming study groups in your future classes at WMU!
- You will have more free time - Many people do not attend SI because they feel like they don't have time. Most people who do attend SI tell us that they have more time than before because they grasp the class concepts faster and do not have to spend so much time studying.
