Martin Luther King speech airs on WMUK

February 3, 1998

KALAMAZOO -- To mark Black History Month, WMUK (102.1 FM) will present a historic 90-minute broadcast of Martin Luther King Jr.'s appearance at Western Michigan University on December 18, 1963. The broadcast begins at 7:30 p.m. tonight, Feb. 3.

Less than one month after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, King spoke on the subject of "Social Justice" to a crowd of more than 2,000 in WMU's Read Fieldhouse.

The long-lost WMUK recording of King's speech was discovered only-recently in a private collection.
