Universal student employment application now available

June 2, 1998

KALAMAZOO -- Students seeking employment on Western Michigan University's campus now will have a standard way to apply for jobs.

The Student Employment Referral Service has developed a Universal Student Employment Application. The office will encourage students to use the application when seeking on-campus jobs.

"As the central office for student employment on campus, we thought it would be a great idea to have a standard application that students could use to apply for different jobs on campus," said Rashieda D. Addison, employment coordinator in the Student Employment Referral Service. "Previously, we gave them verbal information about how to try to get a job on campus. This new application will give them written guidelines for providing our departments with the right kind of information."

The application asks for standard data, such as personal information, education, employment history and references. It also contains a complete chart for designating work availability around classes and other activities.

Students will be able to fill out the applications and duplicate them for dissemination to more than one department, if desired. In addition to being available through the Student Employment Referral Service in Room A-100 of Ellsworth Hall, the applications are being distributed to freshmen during summer orientation.

"New students can fill out this application and send it to the hiring department before they even arrive on campus, or they can drop it off while they're here for orientation," Addison said.

The applications also are being sent to hiring departments through campus mail. Students or departments that need additional copies may contact the Student Employment Referral Service at 616 387-2725.
