Alumni Association elects officers

KALAMAZOO -- Thirteen officers, executive committee members and directors have been elected to terms on the Western Michigan University Alumni Association Board of Directors. The new board members will take office July 1.

"We're delighted with the leadership and commitment of these loyal alumni," said M. Jamie Jeremy, executive director of the WMU Alumni Association. "We're grateful for their service to the University, its alumni association and their fellow graduates."

Officers elected to one-year terms for 1998-99 were:

President -- Wyatt Kirk, an associate professor/chairperson at North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro, N.C. Kirk received a bachelor's degree in 1963, a master's degree in 1969 and a doctoral degree in 1973.

Vice president -- Jeanne Carlson, vice president of the General Motors Account/J619 at Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan, Detroit. Carlson received a bachelor's degree in 1968.

Treasurer -- William Higley, senior vice president of the Interstate Welding Sales Corp., Marinette, Wis. Higley received a bachelor's degree in 1969 and a master's degree in 1970.

Past president -- Robert G. Miller, sales manager for K-Lift Materials Handling Equipment, Kalamazoo, Mich. Miller received a bachelor's degree 1972.

Executive committee members elected to one-year terms for 1998-99 are: Richard Fluke, president and chief executive officer of Hospital Network Inc., Kalamazoo, Mich., who received a master's degree in 1964; Kathleen Kuhr, associate regional counsel at the Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Co., Livonia, Mich., who received a bachelor's degree in 1982; Kenneth Meinke, manager of health care consulting at Plante & Moran, Grand Rapids, Mich., who received a bachelor's degree in 1980; and Todd Regis, a union representative for Local 951 United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, Grand Rapids, Mich., who received a bachelor's degree in 1989.

Directors elected to three-year terms beginning in 1998-99 are: Jeanne Carlson, who also was elected association vice president for 1998-99; Nolan Fischer, a senior consultant at the Covey Leadership Center, Provo, Utah., who received a bachelor's degree in 1969; Pam Carr Hagerman, direct marketing manager at Kraft Foods, Glenview, Ill., who received a bachelor's degree in 1986; Peggy Peltonen, director of SAP financial systems implementations at Pharmacia & Upjohn Inc., Kalamazoo, Mich., who received a bachelor's degree in 1970; and Julie Shroyer, an associate at Capitol Associates Inc., Washington, D.C., who received a bachelor's degree in 1987.
