Materials management courses offered this fall

August 27, 1998

KALAMAZOO -- Three noncredit courses are being offered at Western Michigan University starting Sept. 17 to help professionals keep pace with advances in the ever-changing production and inventory management field.

The courses are part of the Materials Management Training Program that WMU introduced this past winter. The program gives participants an opportunity to assess their career goals and grow professionally while they expand their expertise. It is designed for production and inventory managers or other management professionals interested in augmenting their knowledge and competence in supply chain management.

The Materials Management Training Program is being offered by WMU's Office of Professional Programs and Conferences in cooperation with the Southwest Michigan Chapter of the American Production and Inventory Control Society. APICS membership is not required to enroll in the program.

Classes may be taken by anyone, purely for the learning experience or as preparation for taking the certification examinations required to earn APICS' internationally recognized Certified Production Inventory Manager designation.

The materials management courses being offered this fall take place on Thursdays and run for either three or four weeks. The courses, course dates and tuition are: "Material Requirements Planning/Capacity Requirements Planning," Sept. 17 through Oct. 8, $200 (includes text); "Inventory Management," Oct. 22 through Nov. 5, $180 (includes text); and "Production Activity Control," Nov. 19, Dec. 3 and Dec. 10, $180 (includes text).

All three classes will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. in Schneider Hall on the WMU campus. The deadline to register is seven days prior to the start of class.

For more information or to register for a class, interested persons should call WMU's Office of Professional Programs and Conferences at (616) 387-4174.
