KALAMAZOO -- WMU's Traci Morin is the Mid-American Conference offensive player of the week in volleyball. A junior middle blocker, Morin was a named to the All MAC second team in her sophomore year.
Morin was selected on the basis of her performance in the WMU Invitational, Sept. 18-19, in the Broncos defeated Iowa State (3-0), Western Illinois (3-2), and West Virginia (3-0).
Morin was unstoppable in the tournament, hitting .563 (49-4-80) and blocking 22 shots. She hit a career best .737 (15-1-19) against Iowa State on Sept. 18. The junior tied a school record in that match with six service aces against the Cyclones, including three in a row to close out game 2.
Sophomore setter Jen Nowak took home tournament MVP honors after assisting her teammates 160 times during the weekend. She had a career-high 77 assists against Western Illinois. Morin, senior Stefanie Rotunno, and junior Mandy Whitfield were named to the all-tournament team.
Rotunno recorded 50 kills (4.5 kpg.) and a .471 attack percentage during the tournament. Whitfield drilled 31 kills in the three matches, including a season-high 17 against Western Illinois.
WMU's next home match is Oct. 7 versus Eastern Michigan.
