KALAMAZOO -- WMU's volleyball Broncos return to University Arena Wednesday, Oct. 7, for their first home match of the 1998 Mid-American Conference schedule. The Broncos host Eastern Michigan in the contest, which begins at 7 p.m.
"We are hoping for a big crowd and a big win against Eastern Michigan," says coach Cathy George, "to set the tone for the rest of our season. The home contests are crucial to our push to return to the [MAC] playoffs. There is no question that our team responds to the enthusiasm of our fans."
WMU has led the MAC in volleyball attendance each of the past two seasons.
WMU is 6-2 on its home court this season and has won three in a row at home in non-conference matches. The Broncos opened MAC play with four road matches in 11 days. WMU suffered a 3-1 loss at Northern Illinois, but rebounded with wins at Ohio (3-2) and at Central Michigan (3-0), before dropping a tough five-game match at Akron.
The Broncos put up some impressive numbers in Friday night's 3-2 loss at Akron. Senior Stephanie Rotunno led four Broncos with double-digit kills in the match. Rotunno had 22 kills and a .273 attack percentage. She also had 10 digs. Sophomore Monyka Paul had her best match of the season with 17 kills, 13 digs and a .368 hitting percentage. Junior Traci Morin also had 17 kills and added nine digs for the second match in a row.
