Terri Sue Harris

Terri Sue Harris, assistant director of admissions, died March
7 in Kalamazoo. She was 40.
Harris, who came to WMU as a residence hall director in 1984
and was named acting assistant director of residence hall life
in 1989. Later that year, she became an assistant director of
admissions. Among her responsibilities included recruiting students
from high schools and community colleges in Southwest Michigan.
She worked with the Alumni Ambassadors and parent orientation
programs as well as coordinating the Gold Pride Preview, WMU's
largest on-campus recruitment event. She also taught workshops
on time management, conflict resolution and volunteer motivation
and leadership.
A former executive board member of the Administrative Professional
Association, she was active in the Michigan Association of College
Admissions Counselors, the Michigan Association of Collegiate
Registrars and Admissions Officers and the American Association
of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers.
Harris earned a bachelor's degree in education from Central
Michigan University and a master's degree in counselor education
from Northern Illinois University. She is the mother of a son,
Benjamin.
A memorial service for Harris was held March 9 at WMU's Kanley
Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Terri Sue Harris Memorial
Scholarship Fund at Western Michigan University through the WMU
Foundation.
