KALAMAZOO -- Two Western Michigan University seniors in the interior design program recently won awards at the American Society of Interior Designers Senior Interior Design Competition.
The awards were handed out by the society's Michigan chapter at the Michigan Design Center's annual Career Day on March 26 in Troy, Mich.
Wei Khean Seah, an international student from Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, won $1,500 for first place, while Eleonora Philopoulos of Kalamazoo won $100 for third place.
The annual competition is open to seniors in interior design at schools across Michigan. This year, students were challenged to develop schematic designs for a restaurant and trade show booth based on sections of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification's professional certification examination.
Under competition rules, students had to work independently with no faculty input. Students from Central, Eastern, Lawrence Technological, Michigan State and Wayne State universities as well as Kendall College of Art and Design and Adrian College may compete.
