KALAMAZOO -- The University Theatre opens its 1999-2000 season with Moliere's The Imaginary Invalid, Oct. 7 through 16 in Laura V. Shaw Theatre.
Directed by guest director Lowry Marshall, this classic farce is the tale of a hypochondriac who betroths his daughter to a doctor in an attempt to reduce his medical costs. Chaos ensues when it is revealed that the daughter is in love with another man, and the creative maid must clean up the mess.
The production opens Thursday, Oct. 7, for the annual President's Preview. The regular run of performances is Friday, Oct. 8, through Sunday, Oct. 10, and Thursday, Oct. 14, through Saturday, Oct. 16. Most performances are at 8 p.m. There is one 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Oct. 10.
A First Nighter's Reception sponsored by BRAVO! Restaurant and Cafe will be held following the Friday, Oct. 8, performance. There will be a sign-language-interpreted performance for the deaf and hard of hearing on Thursday, Oct. 14.
Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and for WMU faculty and staff, and $5 for WMU students. For reservations call the Gilmore Theatre Ticket Office at 616 387-6222.
