AKRON, Ohio. -- The Western Michigan University football team improved to 7-2 overall and 6-0 in the Mid-American Conference with a 24-10 victory today (Oct. 30) at Akron.
The Bronco victory coupled with a win by Marshall at Northern Illinois clinched the MAC West Division title for Western.
Senior quarterback Tim Lester completed 29 of 48 passes for 373 yards and two touchdowns. Lester now has 29 TD passes for the season and 82 for his career. Corey Alston was on the receiving end of both Lester TD passes and had 123 yards in receptions.
Scott Niles again led the Bronco defense in tackles, with nine. Eric Bettys had one sack, and Marty Harig had two sacks and four tackles.
WMU is off next weekend. The Broncos host Marshall on Saturday, Nov. 13, in their final regular season contest. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. at Waldo Stadium.
