Men's basketball team gets first MAC win

KALAMAZOO -- Bronson Nichols was perfect from three-point range and Rod Brown had a team-high 21 points as the WMU men's basketball team grabbed it's first MAC win of the season. Western Michigan defeated Bowling Green, 91-82, on Wednesday night (Jan. 12) at University Arena.

The Broncos improved to 5-8 overall and 1-3 in the Mid-American Conference. Two of the team's conferences losses were by a single point. After a 1-5 season start, the Broncos have gone 4-3 in their past seven games.

Bowling Green suffered its first MAC loss of the season (3-1) and fell to 11-3 overall.

Nichols, a junior forward from Detroit, was a perfect five for five from behind the three-point arc and was five of six from the free throw line for a career high 20 points. Freshman Taylor Bro also had a career-high point total with 16.

In addition to his 21 points, Brown contributed 12 assists, five rebounds, and three steals. Senior Thadus Williams added 20 points.

Western continues conference competition on Saturday, Jan. 15, when it travels to arch-rival Central Michigan for a 2 p.m. start. WMU is home again for a 7 p.m. contest versus Toledo on Wednesday, Jan. 19.
