KALAMAZOO -- The WMU community will honor its student employees Feb. 14-18 during the 14th annual Student Employment Week.
Sponsored by Career and Student Employment Services, the activities are designed to recognize the work of some 7,000 university students employed each year-WMU's largest employee group.
An awards reception on Thursday, Feb. 17, will honor the "Student Employee of the Year" along with all other outstanding workers nominated for the award and their nominators. To be held in the President's Dining Room at the Bernhard Center, the ceremony will recognize those students who demonstrate "reliability, initiative, professionalism and a unique contribution to our university community."
A "Supervisor of the Year" also will be chosen from among nominees from across the campus. Dean of Students Diane Swartz will present the awards.
Even if supervisors missed the Feb. 3 application deadline for award nominations, departments are encouraged to honor their student workers in other ways. Suggestions include a treat day, notes sent to a student's family singing his or her praises, silly or serious appreciation certificates or coupon booklets entitling students to a free can of pop, homemade goodies or a movie night with the boss.
