Feb. 9, 2000

TOLEDO, Ohio -- WMU's women's basketball ended a 12-year losing streak at Toledo with a 77-70 victory on Wednesday evening (Feb. 9). It was the first time the Bronco women had won at Toledo and the first season series sweep of the Rockets by WMU since the 1987-88 season.

With the win, WMU improves to 13-9 overall and 10-1 in the Mid-American Conference. Toledo falls to 9-12, 6-5 MAC. The Broncos now hold a four-game lead in the MAC West Division with five games remaining on their regular season schedule.

WMU hosts West Division rival Ball State on Saturday, Feb. 12, at University Arena. Starting time for the contest has been shifted to 4:30 p.m. to accommodate television coverage of the men's basketball contest versus Central Michigan. The men's game, with a 2 p.m. tipoff, precedes the women's contest in University Arena.

Rookie Kristin Koetsier led WMU with a game-high 23 points in the win at Toledo. Senior Danielle Mueller scored 18 points on 8 of 11 shooting and contributed 12 rebounds. Classmate Shelsea Erving, the second-leading scorer in Bronco history, had 14 points and six rebounds and played all 40 minutes of the contest.

For the second consecutive game, senior Dionne Lassila set a career best with 16 points and had four baskets from 3-point range to up her season total to 22 treys. Lassila leads the MAC in shooting percentage from 3-point range. She has started the past three games in relief of sophomore guard Brooke Gallert, who is sidelined with an injury.

Gallert's twin sister, Brianne, had a game-high seven assists, scored six points, and played all 40 minutes in Wednesday's win at Toledo.

Following Saturday's contest with Ball State, the Broncos will be home for only one more regular season match, when they host Central Michigan on Wednesday, Feb. 23. The balance of their schedule will be played at Miami (Feb. 14), at Northern Illinois (Feb. 19), and at Eastern Michigan (Feb. 25). The Mid-American Conference Tournament begins Feb. 28.
