Men's basketball team nips Chips 76-75

Feb. 12, 2000

KALAMAZOO -- WMU's men's basketball team rallied for a 76-75 victory over Central Michigan on Saturday (Feb. 12) before a season-high crowd of 3,124 fans at WMU's University Arena. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for the Broncos, who had lost, 88-72, to the Chippewas in January at CMU.

With the win, the Broncos improved to 9-14 overall and 5-9 in the Mid-American Conference.

Senior Thadus Williams led a Bronco run early in the second half to overcome a five-point CMU advantage. The Broncos never trailed again, but the game remained close, with Central Michigan missing several opportunities to tie or win the contest in the final minute of play.

Senior Tony Barksdale came off the bench for WMU to led all player with 26 points. Williams and senior Rod Brown each added 18 points for the Broncos. Brown also contributed six assists, four rebounds, and three steals.

The Broncos look to extend their winning streak to two games and to avenge another earlier-season loss when they host Northern Illinois on Wednesday, Feb. 16, beginning at 7 p.m. The Broncos lost by one point at NIU in a contest in which Barksdale did not play.

Bronco men's basketball can be heard on the Bronco Radio Network (Flagship station WFAT-96.5 FM Kalamazoo), and via broadcast.com on the Bronco Web site <www.wmubroncos.com>.
