KALAMAZOO -- WMU's men's basketball team gained an important victory Wednesday night (Feb. 16) at WMU's University Arena, when the Broncos defeated Northern Illinois, 92-85.
With the win, Western Michigan improves to 10-14 overall and 6-9 in the Mid-American Conference. The Broncos extended their winning streak to two games and moved into a fourth-place tied with Northern Illinois (also 6-9 MAC) in the MAC West Division.
In the MAC West, WMU trails Eastern Michigan (8-7 MAC), Ball State (8-7), and Toledo (7-7). The Broncos' final three games of the regular season are versus those three teams.
WMU travels to Toledo on Saturday, Feb. 19, for a 7 p.m. tipoff. Two days later, on Monday, Feb. 21, the Broncos will be in Ypsilanti for a 7 p.m. contest at Eastern Michigan. In the final game of the regular season, WMU hosts Ball State on Saturday, Feb. 26, beginning at 2 p.m. The Mid-American Conference Tournament begins March 1.

In Wednesday night's victory over Northern Illinois, senior guard Tony Barksdale led all players with 34 points. He was 11 of 21 from the field and hit 9 of 12 attempts from the free throw line.
The Broncos put five players in double-figure scoring. Rod Brown had 10 points, four rebounds, and eight assists. Thadus Williams contributed 16 points. Taylor Bro and Emil Mulic had 12 and 10 points, respectively. Bro and Mulic both had nine rebounds, leaving each of them one board shy of a double-double.
