YPSILANTI, Mich. -- WMU men's basketball team suffered its second road loss in three days on Monday night (Feb. 21), with a 93-71 defeat at the hands of Eastern Michigan before a crowd of 2,217 in Ypsilanti. The Broncos lost, 81-66, at Toledo on Saturday.
The Broncos (10-16 overall, 6-11 MAC) won only one road contest in nine attempts against MAC teams during the 1999-2000 season. WMU is 5-3 on its home court against conference opponents and will complete the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 26, with a home match versus Ball State. That game begins at 2 p.m. in University Arena.
In Monday's loss at Eastern Michigan, Jon Powell led four Broncos in double-figure scoring with 19 points. He also contributed six rebounds. Brad Van Timmeren had a team-high seven boards. Taylor Bro added 17 points and five rebounds. Rod Brown had 11 points, three rebounds and a team-high four assists. Tony Barksdale scored 10 points.
Eastern Michigan had a 39-31 advantage in rebounds and hit 57 percent (38 of 67) of its shots from the field, compared to only 36 percent (21 of 58) for WMU. The Broncos held the advantage on the free-throw line, making 25 of 34 attempts (.735), compared to 12 of 20 shooting (.600) from the line for the Eagles.
