Koetsier named freshman All-American

March 13, 2000

KALAMAZOO -- Western Michigan University freshman Kristin Koetsier has added another impressive accolade to her list.

Koetsier was one of 10 freshmen across the nation to be named to the Women's Basketball News Service All-Freshmen First Team.

The 2000 Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year and a First Team All-MAC selection, Koetsier joins Alicia Ratay (Notre Dame), LaToya Thomas (Mississippi State), Schuye LaRue (Virginia), Chantelle Anderson (Vanderbilt), Erin Thorn (Brigham Young), Loree Payne (Washington), Katie Smith (Nevada), Julie Szabo (Stony Brook), and Ashley Augspurger (Colorado State) on the all-rookie first team.

Koetsier established WMU and MAC rookie season scoring records and helped lead the Broncos to a 14-2 conference record and the MAC West Division title. Western Michigan won a school-record nine straight league games thanks in large part to Koetsier's play. The WMU rookie led the MAC in scoring most of the season and was MAC Player of the Week a league-high five times.

Selected as Miss Michigan Basketball in her high school senior season, Koetsier is a 6-foot, 3-inch forward from Grandville, Mich.
