KALAMAZOO -- The WMU softball team out-hit visiting Northern Illinois in both games of a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon (April 18) at Ebert Field, but were unable to come away with a victory.
Mid-American Conference leader Northern Illinois (21-17 overall, 9-2 MAC) won 1-0 and 8-1. With the loses, the Broncos fall to 8-23 overall and 3-6 in the conference.
Northern Illinois scored the lone run of the first game in the third inning. The Broncos out-hit the Huskies, 6-3, but left eight runners on base. Junior Nicole Drabecki was 2-for-3 at the plate in the first game.
Scoring four runs in the first inning, Northern Illinois jumped out to the early lead in the second game. The Broncos scored in the third inning to cut the lead to 4-1, but the Huskies responded immediately to regain a four-run lead. Junior Alison Honaman finished the day 3-for-6 from the plate to lead the Bronco offensive attack. WMU edged NIU in hits, 8-7, in the second game of the twinbill, but again left eight runners stranded.
