May 1, 2000

KALAMAZOO -- Junior college standout Robby Collum (Racine, WI/Kankakee College) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Western Michigan University beginning next season, head coach Robert McCullum announced.

Collum, a 6-1, 200-pounder, recently starred at Kankakee College (IL) and will have three years of eligibility remaining. The Racine, Wis., native was a full academic qualifier following graduation from Racine Case High School and will major in aviation at Western Michigan.

"We are extremely pleased that Robby has decided to further his academic and athletic endeavors with the Broncos," McCullum said. "He is a proven winner who has encountered success at every level he has participated in."

Collum started every game at point guard for Kankakee in his only season with the program, helping the squad to a 31-7 overall record and a fourth-place finish in the junior college Division I national tournament. He concluded the year with averages of 8.1 points, 4.3 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game. Collum also finished second on the team with 81 steals.

Collum was a member of two state championship squads during his prep career, first claiming the title with Racine Lutheran as a freshman and later capping his career with a tournament title at Racine Case as a senior. His efforts during his final campaign earned him first team all-county and second team all-conference accolades.

"I am excited by the opportunity to play basketball for Western Michigan and for the chance to receive a quality education," Collum said.
